Wow, this post is late but there has been a lot going on.
I volunteer with the Oxjam Beeston Music Festival team to put on a music festival, believe it or not, that takes over a town and raises money for Oxfam.
This year there were 53 different Oxjams including large cities such as Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle and Leicester. In Beeston we had a fantastic response from the venues are artists and we were able to put on 14 stages in 12 venues hosting over 80 acts. Those numbers alone are mind blowing but there is one that makes all the stress worth it.
Beeston raised a huge £13,000 for Oxfam which was the 3rd highest in the 53.
We have so many people to thank and I think this sums it up perfectly…
THANK YOU BEESTON! Oxjam truly is a community event which is dependent on the dedication, creativity and talent of many volunteers and artists who make the festival such a success. Around 4,000 people attended this year’s event, many attracted from outside Beeston itself. It was fantastic to see people of all ages enjoying music and the festival atmosphere!
We’d like to give our special thanks to the following local businesses and organisations who have provided significant contributions to support Oxjam this year:
Lets Go To Beeston, Broxtowe Borough Council Arts & Events,
The University of Nottingham, in particular Steve Benford and Rachel Van Krimpen, HeX Productions, Foster Industrial, C P Walker & Son, Mark Brown Designs, Northgate Vehicle Hire, Oxfam Books & Music Beeston, The Guitar Spot, Slob Dog Sound & Light, SoundMonkey Sound Systems & SoundMonkey Events, Clive Buxton Sound,Music Gear Direct, Loud & Clear Solutions, Pholex Event Power Ltd, Magpie Brewery, Johnny Pusztai, Bartons Plc,Hop Pole Beeston, The Bar Beeston, Relish Beeston, The Star Inn, White Lion Bar & Kitchen, Crown Inn Beeston, The Malt Shovel Beeston, Belle & Jerome, Beeston, The Bean and our fantastic Oxjam photographers.Ultimately Oxjam exists to support people in need in the UK and across the world. £12,000 is a major contribution to tackling poverty, hunger and disease through Oxfam. We hope the people of Beeston are extremely proud of their achievement!
If you are looking to volunteer I would highly recommend looking to see if there is an Oxjam team near you. I was able to use my web, design and musical knowledge and it was an amazing experience. I can talk about Oxjam all week so please get in touch if you want to know any more.
